Radiac Abrasives, a leading manufacturer of conventional bonded and super abrasive grinding wheels is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer based in our plant in Salem, IL.  For more than 100 years, Radiac has delivered industry leading technology and quality products and service to the metal finishing industry. Radiac is a TYROLIT Company that is owned by the Swarovski Group which is headquartered in Schwaz, Austria.

Basic Function: The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for ensuring that manufacturing is carried out (and the end-product is produced) in the most time-efficient and cost-effective way while still maintaining overall product quality.

Responsibilities:

  1. Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
  2. Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
  3. Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  4. Develops and leads Capital Investment Projects that align with company’s goals – cost savings, productivity improvements, new business, and safety.
  5. Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
  6. Incorporate new manufacturing methods or processes to improve existing operations.
  7. Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness.
  8. Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing.

Skills:

  1. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  2. Strong organization and management skills.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  4. High level of technical expertise.
  5. Strong analytical thinker.

Experience and Education:

  1. BS Degree in manufacturing, industrial, or mechanical engineering required.
  2. 5+ years of experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering preferred.
  3. Experience evaluating and troubleshooting manufacturing processes and machinery.
  4. Experience using CAD, CAM, data analysis programs, and related software.
  5. Experience in Project Management and Lean Manufacturing Principles are preferred.

Essential Physical Requirements:

  1. 20/20 vision required with or without correction.
  2. Ability to use hands 100% of the workday.
  3. Ability to stand and or walk 100% of the workday.
  4. Ability to bend, stoop or twist 50% of the workday.
  5. Ability to exert physical force to push, pull, lift or carry 50 pounds occasionally.
  6. Ability to work in shop environment.
